Very crafty.

Posted on 30 November 2011

One of the things I love most about London is that it fosters small and independent designers. Everyone in London is looking for that individual item that no-one else has, and who better to make it than the up-and-coming creative types living in the city?

The Bust Christmas Craftacular was held in Bethnal Green on Sunday and had DJ's, stalls, cakes, workshops and lots and lots of crafty-minded people.

These two stalls really stood out for me. I bought a geometric perspex and wood pendant from Nylon Sky, which I intend to wear over my giant navy chiffon shirt...

Mr Wingate creates lovely prints of London landmarks, and turns them into lovely things...like cushions. Perfect for a city centre sofa.

It's never too cold for ice cream.

I love ice cream. It's one of my favourite things.

Chin Chin Labs in Camden Market brings to North London a new and exciting way to get your yummy frozen fix. Handmade to order using liquid nitrogen (right in front of you!) the shop is decked out like a mad scientist's lab, with all the staff even wearing white coats and goggles....

And it's not just the method that's experimental. On our last visit we scoffed Bonfire S'mores Ice Cream with Salted Caramel Sauce and Lavender Honeycomb Crunch. And they also do a lovely Pancake and Maple Syrup Ice Cream with Bacon Sugar Shards and Blueberry Sauce.

Oh, and by the way, outside....there are swings to sit on!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream...

Camden Lock?!

Posted on 28 November 2011

I have probably been to Camden about a million times since my first visit when I was about 16, but I have never seen the famous Camden Lock actually being used! So I was pretty excited to see not one, but lots of boats pass through it when I was out shopping a week ago. It's the little things.....

We then went and got food from some of the stalls around the Lock, and watched even more boats go by.

I heart Camden.

Did you have a spooky Halloween?

I went to my friend's Halloween house party in Clapham, and I have to admit, the commitment to horrific (but well executed) make-up was pretty impressive. I think most of us have got to the age now where it's acceptable to stop trying to be sexy on Halloween, and start looking either incredibly stupid or terrifying. Please see below for photos...

London on Halloween weekend is fun. It's great to get the tube somewhere and find yourself sitting in a carriage with a headless horseman, Batman, three Zombies, a sexy cat and Cleopatra.

Grrr...argh.

Summer Daze.

Posted on 28 November 2011

Well, that's that then. That was summer.

Although it wasn't really the hazy-lazy-balmy summer we all hoped it would be, I don't know about you, but I made the most of it.

When I was younger, summer meant airports and holidays and reading lists and ice creams. Now I'm older it means cider and barbeques and FESTIVALSs.

I HAVE to go to a festival every summer now. Two years ago, I didn't have one planned, and all the 'festival fashion' and half price tents and BBC Glasto coverage made me nearly want to cry. There is something so magical, and escapist and wonderful about spending a week (because I'm hardcore) in a tent commune with all your mates, with nothing to worry about except the smell of the toilets.

And festivals wouldn't be festivals without GLITTER. At no other point in your adult life is glitter as acceptable as it is at Glasto/Bestival/SGP etc. You can go subtle and just highlight your cheekbones, you can go Bat For Lashes and stick sequins on your eyebrows or you can just go nuts and chuck a pot of the stuff over your head. And somehow, you feel better. Sparklier.

I wish I could wear glitter everyday.
