Matte Me - 5 Oily Skin Hacks You Need To Know

If you suffer from oily skin, it can seem like there's no escape. Summer time means powdering within an inch of your life, while the colder months are accompanied by central heating which dries your skin out and makes your pores produce even more oil. End the nightmare by following our five easy hacks to help banish shiny skin - and stay flawless all day.

1. Take everything off at night...

A great skincare routine is one of the best ways to control oil, but we’re often in such a rush to sit down in front of EastEnders that we don’t think to remove our make-up. Clogged pores produce more oil and nasty blemishes, so five minutes getting back to fresh clean skin will make all the difference.

2. Like an onion, it's all about layers

Once you’ve got your skincare routine down, you’ll want to make your make-up last. The right primer is the key and will smooth out pores and blur any imperfections. Find a primer which feels lightweight, keeps your skin matte, and controls shine for as long as possible.

Stay Matte Primer lasts for up to 8 hours (perfect for a day in the office or a night on the tiles) and can be used on top of make-up if you need to touch up.

3. The eyes have it

If you’ve got oily skin, you’re likely to get oily eyelids too - a nightmare when you’re trying to work a bold smokey eye. To control the oil, don’t forget to prime with an eyeshadow primer; leave for a minute to dry and then brush on shadows, liners or cream products that will stick without the creasing.

4. Conceal, don’t feel

We’re often too quick to layer on the foundation when blackheads and pimples attack. Unless you’ve got a spot as red and angry as lava, concealer in the right places will give you a covered-up look whilst still adding glow and not blocking up your skin.

Our lifesaver is Match Perfection concealer which works both under the eyes and on pesky blemishes and redness. Blend out with a buffing brush and you’re ready to face the day.

5. Stay Matte

Our final tip is a proven celeb favourite - Stay Matte powder. This finely milled finishing powder is favoured by the likes of Tanya Burr, who's featured it in multiple tutorials over the years.

A light powder means your look won’t feel heavy and dragged down but will keep that troublesome T-zone away. Apply once in the morning and pop in your bag for quick touch-ups along the way.
